Montana! BIG Sky Country!

"Designated Driver"
July 6th and headed to Montana! The drive through Clarks Canyon was absolutely breath taking! Every turn as we drove through these valleys and canyons was something new to see and ooh and ahh about! This was the road that would take us up to Dillon ,Montana where we would stay 2 nites at The Country Side Rv Pk. $31 per nite, friendly, clean and a bit rustic. A great little set up of what appears to be an old saloon and a teepee. Your choice to rent either one. Lodge or tent?
The sunsets from this camp was gorgeous! There is a Old West Ghost town to tour nearby and Virginia City which is an old historic town to tour and shop that is about a 45 min.drive to get to.

We met a nice couple that parked next to us from N.J. (Diane and Frank) A nice couple!

Utah, we're on the way!

June 28and on our way to see the town of Moab again after 19 years! But for some reason it wasn't all we'd remembered. I suppose if you are a all wheel terrain, mountain biker or mountain hiker, you will love it. But for us, it was nice but not a lot for us to do. It was HOT, the red clay mountains surround Moab and everywhere you look it was a wall of mountains! I felt Closter phobic!
The Moab Brewery was a great lil place to hang out and the OKAY RV PK ($34 per nite) was a small quaint, well kept campground. My only complaint would be NO pool! Oh and we sure could've used one!

We decided to stay only two nights and move on to Provo, Utah. And so we did....but not by way of rte 6! Tim decided to go easy on me and we took the "low" roads (interstate) along the valleys and river. I was very pleased, to say the least! Rte 6 is climbs, descents, narrow with switch backs and drop offs! Though it was an extra hour or two, the drive was nice and we had no where to be.

East Bay Rv Pk was high on a sign along the way and it was late by the time we arrived. So on we went and checked ourselves in. Gotta love those "after hour" check ins! We lucked out! a great Little park, super clean, friendly and A POOL!! We extended our stay for 4 nights and @ $30 per nite it didn't break the bank. Everything was close by and glad for that! We had been smelling a rotten egg smell and decided we may have a split  or something wrong in our septic tank. Well, we found out that our chassis batteries had gone bad!! Ugh! $860 later and a Mobile Rv bill, we were up and running! Lesson to be learned, be sure ALL connections are tight and secure!! Yes, Mr "Mobile" guy fried a battery! And we learned starting up the rv before checking connections makes things go "SPARK"!!

July 4th and on our way to N. Salt Lake City and only an hour or so drive. (we won't mention burning an inch of parking break a few miles up the road, will we Tim?) ;0)
Pony Express Rv Pk  is a newer park with large concrete pads, nice pool and very pristine! And at $40 per nite, it was a great location to town.  Nice city with the large tabernacle that sits front and center. A very high Mormon population and very comfortable feel of safety in this city. Tim and I sad outside on the city sidewalk and enjoyed a light brunch. Explored this very pretty city, then took a drive out to The Salt Lake. Now that was very different than the lakes we're used to! No boats, No people, No life really. Other than brine shrimp and birds live here. They say that this lake is so thick with salt that anyone and everyone will float. Well, it was not the kind of water or shore I would go in! People told me it stinks and dead fish and birds were everywhere. I didn't see that. But I did see tons of bugs swarming in the air and close to the ground everywhere. We skipped the state park tour.

July 8th and we were pulling up anchor and heading to Montana!

June 26th and on to Colorado......

And oh how I would've loved a stop over in Pegosa Springs! A beautiful town in Colorado near the boarder of New Mexico! This town will be on our itinerary next time through this part of the country!

But for now, Cortez Colorado bound. While the town of Cortez was "ok" the location to the Cave Dwellings and the National Park was perfect!! You could see the mountains that showcased them from the Cortez KOA where we stayed. Great for big rigs, a short walk to a beautiful 3 acres dog park ad along a river. Clean and friendly but no pool! ( getting more and more difficult to find campground pools!)

The 20 mile ride into the Mesa Verde (Cave Dwellings) was a beautiful climb. And for those with fear of heights this would be a bit of a "white knuckle" ride but a must see! The views are extrordanary!! One to the top, you will find cave dwellings, circa 1000, tucked away in the most unusual places under the rocky cliffs. Amazing what the indians could do in this turane! Villages scattered thoughout and all done with primative means! You can tour many on foot. Some of those harder to get to than others.
Be sure to get a brochure upon entering the park. It will tell you all locations and names of the dwellings!
Thank you to the woman at the dog park that suggested the Mesa Verde!! We may have missed this awesome experience!

Heads up! If you decide to head north from here, think twice about taking the "Million Dollar Hwy"! Especially if you're planning on taking your rig with you!! Narrow, switchbacks, dropoffs......I refused!! :)
There are easier routes!
Enjoy!

Santa Fe!! Oh how I've been looking foward to meeting you!

June 19th we arrive at our reserved campsite in Sante Fe Skies Rv Pk. The grounds sit up high on a hill with views galore!!$34  per nite for our pull thru site and well worth it! In fact, we started with 3 days and stayed 7! ;) Nice dog park  but no pool! :(  Water is like liquid gold! Hard to come by when there is a drought in the desert....and there almost always is!
Sante Fe was all and more of what I'd expected! A lively city with arts and food and culture .....etc! The movie, The Lone Ranger was being filmed during the time we were there. Johnny Dep was staying in town.......ohhhh, only if I had the time for him.....we'd have had lunch or dinner together!.....Yeah Right!! (wishful thinking!! :)
WE met some really nice friends parked next to us, Elaine and Dave, that we befriended over wine! :) Went to supper with them for Tim's birthday and still stay in touch via texting. They live in Fort Worth,Tx. but have a condo on Marco Island,Fl.
I recommend taking a day trip to Taos. A beautiful little artsy town nestled high in the mtns. And while in route, you'll rde over the gorge! WE got out to walk it and let me tell you, the view is awesome but if you are faint on heights.....beware! Your stomach will turn!!
I also HIGHLY recommend touring the old historic holy town of Chimayo!! A must!
After touring the north end of Sante Fe, there's a little town about 15 miles south called Madrid. Madrid was a deserted mining town for years, then a movie called Hog Wild with John Travolta was filmed there. The village was a sleepy quiet little place. Then a handful of old hippies, now in there 60's/70's came in with all their handcrafts and arts and made this little place a gemstone! Being an artist myself, it was right up my alley! Loved this place! But beware!! Running water is hard to come by. So many dwellings do not have running water. Quirky artists, warm and friendly folks sell everything to hand made chocolates to fountains made from pottery. So many appealing fun things to see. Even a few restaurants and bars to quench the thirst and satisfy your bellies!
Sante Fe, Taos, Madrid.....I will be back!! <3
