New Orleans.....May29th to June 1st (2013)

The next time we're in New Orleans we'll be sure to stay much much longer!! Too much to do in such a short time!
But here's what we did learn about this great southern city:
We stayed about at a KOA about 15 minutes out of downtown in Kenner,La. The KOA West is family run and the owner will walk your dog for $5per walk! Great for extended days exploring the heart of New Orleans! The shuttle from the campground to downtown and back are also free, but tips are highly appreciated! Do Not try and understand the shuttle driver! He's a book of knowledge about the area, landmarks, etc. but unless you're a speed "listener", you will not comprehend! He speaks fast without hitting the "spacebar" and delivers tons of info in 15 mins!! Whew!
The French Qtrs that I thought was a hotel compound is not that at all! It's a large area consisiting of many streets. My favorite thing to do was to stop in the bars for a drink and talk to the bartenders. They were always full of fun info and insight on the way of life here. I learned a little about the history of how the settlers came about, the creoles vs cajuns, etc. The city breaths rhythm and soul and history and art and great cuisine and street venders. The river to the above ground cemeteries to the old buildings and the "high" society blocks of mansions! The history was all around us! The music could be heard from blocks tthat came from one jam session after the other! The local musicians would gather and just play....play their hearts out! And all for the love of music.
There will be a "next" time that we will take that route through the bayous, over the bridges to visit that city that sits well below the levys.
Before I end this section on New Orleans, I must tell you  the best part here, was that we met two wonderful people that were parked along side of us in the KOA! Laura and Jon Singleton have become a part of our lives! One night, 2 bottles of wine, a shared shuttle ride and sad so longs! The following Feb. they drove from their home in Kansas City ,Mo.in horrid winter weather to join us and all of our friends in Sugarloaf Key,Fl! They are now part of our Feb.Family!
Until next time New Orleans!
